DETAILS FROM BORN ON THE BLUE PLANET
ABOUT THE WINDOW
The window considers the roots of the blues. The butterflies are African species and intended to imply memories and dreams of freedom. The main figure is a composite image of various blues musicians, the face is that of the Rev. Gary Davis. Stripes run through the imagery implying racial tension, suffering and bondage transformed by the magic of guitar strings and the rail lines to a better life.

To me the blues are the honest wailing sound of the human soul caught between good news and bad, trying to tell how it feels. I think in our core we all live with the blues, somewhere between the heaven of our deepest hopes and the dark waters of death and fear, spinning like a scratched up 78, round and round on the blue planet.

I found this image of the creator, (which I modified to make him African), in a painting by studio artists who worked for Rafael. Note the spherical curvature af the earth. Now consider that this was before Copernicus or Galileo. Part of the fascination of working in a collage style is found in such intriguing discoveries.
